Hydra - exposition à Live In Your Head

Ce projet a été réalisé pour l'espace d'exposition Live In Your HEAD à Genève avec Alpha Sy. Ces sculptures, à première vue inertes, ont su s'adapter et s'intégrer dans un environnement marqué par l'Anthropocène. Utilisant des matériaux fabriqués par l'homme pour se camoufler et se nourrir, ces créatures énigmatiques ont réussi à survivre et à s'épanouir sur un mur où la vie semblait impossible. Respirant de manière autonome, comme dotés d'une conscience propre, ces poumons organiques semblent absorber l'atmosphère polluée de la ville, filtrant les particules nocives et les transformant en un souffle propre et régénérateur. Le mystère de cette nouvelle espèce réside dans sa capacité à fusionner l'organique et l'inorganique, à vivre en symbiose avec un environnement qui semble inexploitable pour tout être vivant. Les surfaces rugueuses et visqueuses de leurs structures évoquent la texture des pierres, des organes et des plantes. Elles évoquent une forme d'adaptation radicale, où l'artifice et la nature s'unissent pour survivre.

Ces créatures émouvantes, métamorphose permanente du serpent et de la figure de l'hydre, semblent incarner une réponse artistique à notre époque. Elles nous rappellent la résilience de la vie face à l'empreinte de l'humanité sur la planète. Elles nous invitent à une réflexion profonde sur notre propre coexistence avec la nature et la technologie, nous rappelant la nécessité de trouver un équilibre durable entre les deux.

Dans cette installation, les sculptures créées par Stable Diffusion prennent vie dans l'espace d'exposition grâce à des pompes qui soufflent de l'air à travers le mur. Un Arduino contrôle les pompes, leur donnant un mouvement de respiration robotique aléatoire. Cette installation a été conçue et réalisée dans le cadre d'un cours donné par Guilia Bini à la HEAD. Pendant le cours, nous avons étudié différents travaux (livres, vidéos, œuvres d'art) sur la relation entre l'intelligence artificielle et l'art. Nous avons utilisé l'outil Stable Diffusion pour extraire des mots clés de ces lectures, qui ont servi de base à la création d'une sculpture virtuelle imaginée par diffusion stable. Inspirés par cette œuvre numérique, nous l'avons ensuite matérialisée dans le monde réel, en lui donnant vie à l'aide de machines Arduino.

This project was created for the Live In Your HEAD exhibition space in Geneva with Alpha Sy.

These sculptures, at first sight inert, have managed to adapt and integrate into an environment marked by the Anthropocene. Using man-made materials for camouflage and nourishment, these enigmatic creatures have managed to survive and thrive on a wall where life seemed impossible. Breathing autonomously, as if endowed with a consciousness of their own, these organic lungs seem to absorb the city’s polluted atmosphere, filtering out harmful particles and transforming them into clean, regenerative breath. The mystery of this new species lies in its ability to merge the organic and the inorganic, living in symbiosis with an environment that seems inexploitable to any living being. The rough, viscous surfaces of their structures evoke the texture of stones, organs and plants. They evoke a form of radical adaptation, where artifice and nature come together to survive.

These moving creatures, a permanent metamorphosis of the snake and the figure of the hyda, seem to embody an artistic response to our times. They are a reminder of the resilience of life in the face of humanity’s imprint on the planet. They invite us to reflect deeply on our own coexistence with nature and technology, reminding us of the need to find a sustainable balance between the two.


In this installation, the sculptures created by Stable Diffusion are brought to life in the exhibition space by pumps that blow air through the wall. An Arduino controls the pumps, giving them a random robotic breathing motion. Each sculpture is autonomously programmed and can be activated at will by the Arduino.

This installation was conceived and implemented as part of a course given by Guilia Bini at HEAD. During the course, we studied various works (books, videos, art pieces) on the relationship between artificial intelligence and art. We used the Stable Diffusion tool to extract key words from these readings, which served as the basis for the creation of a virtual sculpture imagined by stable diffusion. Inspired by this digital work, we then materialized it in the real world, bringing it to life using Arduino machines.
